| BOTOX |
|
Botox is one of the most effective weapons in the war against the
ravages of time. Approved by the FDA, Botox has been clinically proven to
temporarily eliminate wrinkles. Because of its safety and effectiveness, Botox has
become the most popular, non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the United
States. |
|
Who is it for? |
|
If you are bothered by horizontal forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet Botox may make sense for you. Pregnant women
should not receive Botox injections. |
|
What is it? |
Botox is a natural, purified protein produced by the Clostridium
botulinum, a laboratory cultured bacterium. Botox has been used for therapeutic
purposes for decades and has been proven to be safe, reliable and
effective.

How does it work? |
|
Many wrinkles are caused by repetitive facial expressions triggering the contraction of muscles under the skin. Botox is injected directly into these tiny muscles, blocking nerve impulses from reaching the area and preventing further contractions. The muscle relaxes and simultaneously the skin covering the muscle is smoothed. In certain cases, with ongoing treatments, the wrinkle can actually disappear. The effects of Botox are confined to the treated sites; it does not travel throughout the body. |
|
What can I expect? |
The physician or RN will first identify the muscle sites with a marker. They will then inject micro doses of Botox to each marked site through a tiny
needle. You can request a numbing cream prior to receiving the
injections although most people tolerate the injections without an anesthetic. A
topical application of ice to the area prior to injection makes the
procedure very easy for most patients.
When finished, the doctor or nurse will ask you to briefly apply ice to
the site. Immediately following the session, you will be instructed to
remain upright for 4 hours and contract the muscle repeatedly for 2 hours to
move the Botox throughout the treated muscles. You can otherwise resume your
normal activities immediately.
Although side effects and complications are infrequent, you may have
bruising at the injection site or a headache.
The treatment takes about 10-15 minutes, but the results won’t be
apparent for 3-5 days. |

Results |
|
Botox provides effective wrinkle reduction for crow’s feet and the forehead area. Depending upon the patient, results will usually last between 3
to 5 months. Repeated treatments often lead to an increase in the duration
of results.
