Palo Alto Otoplasty
Otoplasty is a procedure designed to change the shape of ears that abnormally protrude from the side of the head. Children whose ears are fully developed (around 5 years old) and adults are eligible for Otoplasty. Having overly-prominent ears can be a tender source of teasing prompting hurtful nicknames that can be scarring for children and adults alike. It is typically considered that the earlier Otoplasty is performed the better to avoid this needless teasing.
Otoplasty, or ear surgery, can involve different treatments depending on the individual needs of the patients. Ears can be “pinned” back if they are overly prominent or the cartilage can be thinned and re-sculpted, if shape or size is the issue. If you are considering taking action to improve the symmetry, shape or size of your ears, or the ears of your child, we invite you to contact our office for a consultation today.
